After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Citizens Democracy Corps was commissioned by the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, to assist in the development of private enterprise in transforming economies. Now, more than a decade later and with a new name, Citizens Development Corps continues to assist in developing communities, small and medium businesses, and local institutions in emerging markets. Though CDC’s portfolio of services and geographical reach have expanded, its goals remain constant: to deliver technical assistance to develop the workforce, enhance competitiveness, and build capacity; to promote trade and access to new markets; to encourage volunteerism and foster cross-cultural understanding; but, above all, to serve.
“I have faith that the time will eventually come when employees and employers, as well as human kind, will realize that they serve themselves best when they serve others most.”
